The 85 year old Madison had difficulty swallowing his breakfast on June 28, 1836. When his niece asked what was the matter, he answered, “Nothing more than a change of mind, my dear.” Then he slumped over. The Father of the Constitution was buried at his Montpelier plantation in rural Orange, Virginia.
