I have been collecting holiday music for decades and somehow I missed a Christmas album by the Three Stooges?!?
I’m probably not the only one, seeing as how the record industry has let it go missed for much of its existence. Larry, Moe and Curly Joe put out several short records for kids in the late 50s, including “The Three Stooges With The Music Wreckers – Sing 6 Happy Yuletide Songs.” Rhino Records put out a version of the album in the 90s, and another one came out in the 2000s as “Christmas TIme With The Three Stooges.” The track listings aren’t the same – the 2005 version includes a set of tracks where the Stooges join the circus and somehow knock out a tiger.
And yes, in case you’re wondering, the original Stooges were all Jewish: Moe, Curly and Shemp were born Moses, Jerome and Samuel Horwitz, and Larry’s birth name was Larry Feinberg. That said, these records aren’t the first Stooge encounters with December 25th: they all dressed as Santa Claus multiple times in the movies. Here, they try to put up some holiday decorations. If you aren’t sure how it goes, first, look at the title, and second, remember that this is the Stooges we’re talking about.
