Is it really Christmas unless we bring in the cast of “77 Sunset Strip”? You may say yes. You may say no. You may also say “I have no idea what that is.” In the late 50s and early 60s, “77 Sunset Strip” was a show starring Efrem Zimbalist Jr. and Roger Smith as a pair of private investigators based in Los Angeles. Edd Byrnes played the neighborhood parking attendant, Kookie, who threw a ton of hipster lingo at the PIs whenever they were on their way somewhere. And so Byrnes put out the “Yulesville” single, in which he retells the story of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” in Kookie-speak. It’s a real wild scene, man. Real wild scene.
